The original subsidy amount and breakdown as well as the jobs projections came from: Greg Gardner, "Tax help, support sway GM," Detroit Free Press, June 27, 2009. The updated value of MEGA tax credit and investment was taken from Chad Livengood, ?Ford puts up $3B for tax breaks,? The Detroit News, June 9, 2015; online at http://www.pressreader.com/usa/the-detroit-news/20150609/281505044837749...
The package, which was offered to get GM to produce its next small cars at its Orion Township plant and thus save 1,200 jobs, included: a 20-year, $2.1 billion MEGA tax credit (originally reported at $1.1 billion); $136.5 million from the county to pay for training; and a 25-year, 100 percent personal property tax abatement worth an estimated $100 million. Overlaps with main Subsidy Tracker data: a $1.1 billion MEGA entry for 2009.
