Project Description: In 2021 Westlake Vinyls began making investments to increase chlorine, VCM and PVC production including additional brine equipment, chlor-alkali and VCM processing equipment, and a 3rd oxy unit at the plant in Ascension Parish. The work done in 2021 was necessary to make room for the additional equipment needed to complete these expansion projects. For the Chlor Alkali project, Westlake had to relocate polarization rectifiers and add harmonic filters to meet increased expansion rates and reduce trips thus for delivering better performance and increased efficiency. Caustic storage tanks and piping were added to be able to handle the heavier rail loads from this expansion project. For the PVC expansion, improvements and additions such as pumps, valves, transmitters, and piping were added to the reactors and dryers to meet increased expansion and polymerization rates. For the VCM expansion, a cooling tower was expanded to help carry the load of higher rates and increased heat loads. An analyzer building was added to increase the footprint of the area that houses the analyzers and improvements and additions such as valves, transmitters, and piping were made to the analyzers to increase the reliability of these new expansion rates and reduce trips.
