Project Description: The scope of this project includes the planning, development, construction, and commissioning of a new LiPF6 manufacturing facility, a first of its kind in the US. This facility is intended to produce 10,000-12,000 metric tons of LiPF6 per year once in operations. The objective of this project is to construct a world-scale LiPF6 manufacturing facility that will commence operations in 2027, as part of a broader effort to build a resilient, domestic Li-ion battery supply chain. LiPF6 is the salt used in the electrolyte for Li-ion batteries. The product will be distributed to domestic customers via rail or truck, in specially equipped isotainer-type packaging. Raw materials and utilities will be sourced across the United States, via railcar, potentially barge, and pipeline, with as much as possible sourced locally, from Louisiana suppliers. New buildings and facilities that are currently planned are an operations office building (space for process engineers, reliability employees, compliance employees, and production managers to manage the chemical manufacturing activities at the facility), control room, laboratory, warehouse structure, an instrumentation and electrical shop, packaging/loading structure and docks. New civil work required to change vacant land into a safely operating chemical plant currently include steel structure, rail, pipe rack, foundation, culverting, piping, sumps, rail loading/unloading stations, truck loading/unloading stations, roads, parking lots, soil and gravel for land preparation, and heavy haul crossings. The facility will also require potentially multiple storage structures for operations, motor control center(s), electrical substation(s), furniture required for new work spaces, and analyzer building(s). New equipment required as part of the current plans include reactors, filters/screens, clarifiers, ejectors, driers, heat exchangers, pumping, compression, motors, refrigeration compressors, vessels, drums, tanks, thermal oxidizers, scrubbers, stripper vessels, conveying, product filling, pallet wrapping, reclaim units, vessel storage, tank storage, bullet storage, spheracle storage, cooling tower, crystallizers, fans/blowers, safety instrumented system, programable logic controllers, distributive control system, scales, valving, automatic transfer switches, emergency generators, uninterruptable power supply, boilers, water treatment units, instrumentation, lighting, junction box cabinetry, power cabling, instrumentation wiring, piping, pipe paint and coating, pipe insulation, safety showers, fire monitors, and deluge system. This project is still in the front-end engineering and design phase, and therefore the information provided in this application is the best available at this time and has the potential to change through the commencement of operations.
