Subsidy Tracker Individual Entry
expansion of a pulp and paper mill
The value of the subsidy package and the job requirements are based on original research by Greg LeRoy for his article "The Terrible Ten Corporate Candy Store Deals of 1998" published in the May 1998 issue of The Progressive; available online at http://www.ctj.org/pdf/terr10.pdf
The subsidy package included $132 million in tax credits and job assessment fees (workers' personal income tax withholdings ) over 15 years. In 2002, the company was bought by Weyerhaeuser; in 2007, the mill was taken over by Domtar Paper. The Kentucky Financial Incentives database lists a $100 million subsidy from Kentucky Rural Economic Development Act for Domtar Paper Company. The main Subsidy Tracker data separately lists this award under a 1998 entry for KREDA for Domtar Paper.
