Project Description: THE I-SITE PROGRAM WILL TRACK MULTI-LASER PROCESS DRIFT, DESIGN EXPERIMENTAL TRIALS TO SIMULATE EXPECTED PROCESS VARIATION AND DETERMINE TYPES OF PROCESS VARIATIONS FOR A MULTI-LASER PBFAM MACHINE THAT WILL IMPACT RESULTING MATERIAL QUALITY, CULMINATING IN THE GENERATION OF A NEW TEST ARTIFACT AND CORRESPONDING BUILD PROCESS AND MEASUREMENT METHOD THAT CAN BE LEVERAGED FOR MULTI-LASER PBFAM SYSTEMS ACROSS THE INDUSTRY.ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: UNDERSTAND MACHINE AND PROCESS BEHAVIOR VARIATIONS INDUCED BY MULTIPLE OPTIC TRAIN ADDITIVE SYSTEMS,GENERATE NEW BUILD AND MEASUREMENT PROCEDURES THAT CORRESPOND TO A NEW TEST ARTIFACT THAT CAN BE LEVERAGED BY THE ADDITIVE INDUSTRY, MANAGE THE TECHNICAL TEAM, TASKS, AND THE THOROUGH DOCUMENTATION OF LEARNINGS FROM BUILD TRIALS, WHICH WILL INCLUDE ANALYSIS OF DATA OF SENSOR RESPONSE AND MATERIAL PROPERTIES AS A FUNCTION OF SCAN STRATEGY VARIATIONS.EXPECTED OUTCOMES: QUANTIFICATION OF HOW MELT POOL PHYSICS APPEARS DIFFERENTLY IN STITCH REGIONS AND THE ACQUISITION OF NEW INSIGHTS INTO WHICH MELT POOL MONITORING (MPM) TECHNOLOGY IS MOST SENSITIVE TO THESE DIFFERENCES BASIS FOR FUTURE WORK THAT WILL BE NECESSARY TO DEVELOP A STANDARD METHOD FOR ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING OEM'S AND MACHINE USERS TO ASSESS MULTI-LASER CAPABILITIES, REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF PHYSICAL MATERIAL TESTING REQUIRED TO QUALIFY MULTI-LASER PBFAM PARTS AND PROCESSESALLOW MULTI-LASER PBFAM PROCESS USERS TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF PHYSICAL TESTING, DESTRUCTIVE OR NON-DESTRUCTIVE, OF NEW MACHINE ARCHITECTURE STITCHED PARTS AND PROCESSES, THEREBY MAKING THE MULTI-LASER PBFAM PROCESS MORE COST-EFFECTIVEINTENDED BENEFICIARIES:HOSTING OFFICES AND AGENCY/BUREAU, AWARD RECIPIENTS.SUBRECIPIENT ACTIVITIES:UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT EL PASO - CHARACTERIZATION SERVICES GE ADDITIVE - MULTI-LASER EXPERIMENTAL AND SENSOR BUILD TRIALS
