Project Description: THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS PROJECT INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: 1.THROUGH SIMULATION, COMPONENT TESTING AND SYSTEM-LEVEL VALIDATION, ADVANCE THE READINESS OF DOWN-SELECTED TECHNOLOGIES FROM SECTION 2.0, FROM TRL2 TO TRL4; 2.INTEGRATE THE AFOREMENTIONED TECHNOLOGIES IN AN AIR SYSTEM CAPABLE OF MEETING THE BOOST AND AIRFLOW DEMANDS OF A 350KW FUEL CELL, DEMONSTRATED ON AN AIR SYSTEM TEST RIG; 3.VALIDATE THE DEVELOPED FCAS CAPABILITIES VERSUS DOE TARGETS VIA PERFORMANCE, DURABILITY, STOP/START, FREEZE, AND NOISE TESTING, ALONG WITH SYSTEM COST ANALYSIS; 4.DEMONSTRATE, VIA VEHICLE-LEVEL SIMULATIONS, FUEL CELL SYSTEM PERFORMANCE WITH THE DEVELOPED AIR SYSTEM OVER REAL-WORLD TRANSIENT MACHINE CYCLES; COMPARE TO DIESEL AND DIESEL-HYBRID POWERTRAINS; 5.INFORM CATERPILLAR PRODUCT AND TECHNOLOGY ROADMAPS BASED ON PROJECT OUTCOMES; 6.MAINTAIN OR GROW ADVANCED ENGINEERING TALENT POOL IN THE U.S.
