Michigan Business Development Program - Neogen is a publically traded food safety, animal safety, and genetic testing company. Founded in 1982, the Company???s Lansing, Michigan-based food safety division develops and markets dehydrated culture media and rapid diagnostic test kits to detect foodborne bacteria, spoilage organisms, mycotoxins, food allergens, genetic modifications, drug residues, plant diseases, and sanitation concerns. Neogen plans to add an additional building to accommodate additional office, lab and manufacturing space in the City of Lansing, make up to $1,035,000 in investments and create up to 25 new jobs. As a result, the company was awarded a $100,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Michigan was chosen over competing sites in Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. The City of Lansing has offered support to the project in the form of property tax abatement.
