In May 2004, Cabela's announced it would open two of its megastores in Texas, one in Forth Worth and another in Buda, a small town south of Austin. The state provided $600,000 from the Texas Enterprise Fund and $20 million for highway improvements in Buda. The localities created Tax Increment Financing, or TIF, districts to reimburse the company for up-front costs. Forth Worth's TIF subsidy was set at about $57.2 million over 20 years; Buda's was about $36 million. The main Subsidy Tracker data contains a $400,000 entry for the Texas Enterprise Fund.
